The Sword of the Ones He Loved

Perfidy,

the trust

of friends

dissipating

in the Judas-kiss

climax

of His story,

and a sword

will pierce through

your own soul also,

His mother had been told.

Peter’s words returned,

noxious, numbing,

the mockery

of a confidant,

the betrayal

of brothers,

worse than

His enemies

brazen

tauntings

yet,

even so,

He said,

Father,

forgive them,

they know

not

what they

do.
