The Forest

Layers of fogginess crept

slowly, faintly

winsome winter winds

flowing into the dainty

twilight inviting the keeper

of knowledge to shed

tears of wisdom,

and the oaks dared

to hope

for the pursuit

of happiness,

and the pines dared

to dream

for liberty’s kiss,

these were the few,

the brave,

and the lingering fears

of freedom’s steps

retreating dissipated

at the reappearance

of sanity, but only

time would truly tell,

and the billowing

showers laughed,

because the future

was unknown,

and the woodsmen’s tentative

gestures made the willows

whisper secrets

to the nomad’s hollow.
